Form:This algae has fronds which characteristically regularly branch into equal parts and these maintain the same width along their entire length. The fronds are flat, about 1 cm. wide and up to 20 cm. long. The holdfast is made up of single strand outgrowths called rhizoids. The reproductive cells are either scattered or form patterns over the frond surface. Colour:While this species is mostly medium-brown, slightly darker near the base, it often appears bluish when seen under water.
Distribution:Doubling Weed ranges from southern Queensland around the southern shores to south-eastern Western Australia. Habitat:It is widespread in temperate waters, but it extends its range into sub-tropical and colder waters. This species occurs at the lowest tide levels and below. References:Bennett, I. (1987) W.J.
