Blessing of the Fleet with Glen Jakovich (March 6 & 7)

The Department of Fisheries ambassador, former West Coast Eagle Glen Jakovich and the Volunteer Fisheries Liaison Officers (VFLOs) will be attending the Esperance Blessing of the Fleet on Monday 6th March to promote the 'fish for the future' message. They will be conducting a family fishing clinic, setting up an education display, signing cards and taking part in a boat patrol and the blessing in the Bandy Creek Boat Harbour.

On Tuesday 7th, Glen and the Esperance Fisheries Officers will be visiting two of the local primary schools (Nulsan PS and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic PS) to give a 'fish for the future' presentation.

Celebrate Seaweek in Fremantle (March 5-11)

Celebrate Sea Week in Freo - Fremantle's Plastic Bag Free Week

The City of Fremantle, Woolstores Shopping Centre and the Chamber of Commerce are co-ordinating a Plastic Bag Free week in conjunction with Sea Week.

Activities include:

Clean Up Australia Day - Sun 5 March - South Beach, North Bank and North Fremantle

A Drawing Competition for all Primary Schools in the City of Fremantle - Entries close Wednesday 1 March

Displays in Woolstores Shopping Centre throughout the week (5-11 March) depicting the daily sustainability themes.

Seaweek Educators Expo (Friday 10th March 2006)

To celebrate Seaweek 2006, the Department of Fisheries Western Australia will host the sixth Seaweek Educators Expo on Friday 10th March at the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre, Hillarys Boat Harbour, Perth.

With the theme, Footprints for our future this event is a must for all educators with an interest in marine and coastal ecology and biology, offering an array of hands-on learning activities and chances to network with like minded professionals.

This professional development opportunity is proudly supported by the Department of Fisheries, Rottnest Island Authority, the Department of Conservation and Land Management, AQWA, WA Museum, Padbury SHS, Department of Planning and Infrastructure - Marine Education Boat Shed, Perth Diving Academy and High Tide Marine Education.

Cost: $55 (inc. GST)
