beach

description

The beach connects the land and the ocean. Here we find many treasures from the ocean washed up by the waves- like cuttle fish skeletons.

how do humans use this area

The beach is a popular area for recreational use- everybody likes to go to the beach to walk, exercise, swim or surf.

How do peoples actions at the beach have an impact on the ocean?

Often when we are at the beach we can see the impact that humans have on the ocean because much of the garbage such as plactic bags and drink bottles are washed onto the beach at high tide. If there are stormwater drains on the beach then there will be the garbage that was left on the streets and was washed into the drains. Also we see the garbage people leave behind after visiting the beach like cigarette butts and paddle pop sticks.

We should always put our garbage in bins provided or take it home. Don't bury your rubbish because it will only be uncovered by feet or by the waves.

what else lives there

Because the beach is exposed to the tides and waves there are not that many animals or plants living there. On the upper beach just above the high tide level you might find ghost crabs and seahoppers.

Closer to the water there are snails, crabs and worms living in the sand. They feed on tiny plants or animals.

Many birds use the beach including seagulls and terns.
